Fowler warned the Reds that they will be 'slipping backwards' if they don't make quality signings in the next transfer window as he urged the club to secure the signature of Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven. The Premier League leaders had a quiet January transfer window as they did not make a single new addition to their squad.

WHAT ROBBIE FOWLER SAID
Fowler was speaking to BoyleSports, who offer the latest and said: "I’m the sort of fan that thinks if you’re not out there signing good players then you’re slipping behind the competition and are slipping backwards. If you’re not doing that and improving the squad you can plateau. When it comes to Micky van de Ven, he’s a very very good player despite having his injury problems.
"I think he is strong, fast and I think he would look right in a Liverpool shirt. I know Tottenham fans won’t want to hear that but it’s a compliment to him as a player that I think the league leaders should have a look at him."

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Van de Ven has been plagued with multiple injuries ever since he joined the north London side from Wolfsburg in the summer of 2023. He was sidelined for nine Premier League games in the 2023-24 campaign with a hamstring problem. The injury then relapsed this November and the player has only made one league appearance in the past four months.
